About Rebekah Peyton

Rebekah Peyton (b. 1999) is a 2022 alum of Mercyhurst University, and they have completed the coursework required for a BM in Music Therapy. Rebekah has accumulated 150 clinical hours throughout their study at Mercyhurst University. While attending Girard High School in Girard, Pennsylvania, Peyton had many opportunities to foster a love of music.
In their free time, Peyton enjoys playing video games like The Legend of Zelda, reading adventure novels such as Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist, and jamming out to Sufjan Steven's music catalog.

Achievements

In the last year, Peyton has expanded their area of expertise by becoming a tutor for music theory, aural skills, and introduction to piano at Mercyhurst University. They have also completed a semester of music composition lessons with Dr. Albert Glinsky. Outside of campus, they were the woodwind instructor for the Northwestern High School Marching Band for their 2021 show: Pandora's Box.

Experience

Since beginning at Mercyhurst University, Peyton has been involved with the MU Wind Ensemble on alto saxophone, the MU Saxophone Quartet on soprano saxophone, the MU Clarinet Choir on Bb clarinet, and the MU Athletic Bands both on alto saxophone (2019) and as Drum Major for the 2020 season.
Peyton is a saxophone student under Dr. Scott Meier and has been the beneficiary of a masterclass from the Decho Ensemble, a saxophone quartet. They have worked closely with Rebecca Wunch through the MU Saxophone Quartet and Clarinet Choir.

Goals

Looking toward the future, Peyton is in the process of securing a music therapy internship, the next step required to become a Board Certified Music Therapist. Their focus is songwriting, improvisation, lyrical analysis, and counseling in a music therapy setting.
